===2011–2019: Established career and continued acclaim=== In 2011, it was announced that Phoenix would star in [[Paul Thomas Anderson]]'s drama film ''[[The Master (2012 film)|The Master]]'', which traces the relationship between Freddie Quell, a [[World War II]] navy veteran struggling to adjust to a post-war society and Lancaster Dodd ([[Philip Seymour Hoffman]]), a leader of a religious movement known as "The Cause".
