==Arrest== Before dawn on 15 April 1977, military police in civilian clothes appeared at Timerman's house and took him into custody. Enrique Jara, assistant editor of ''La Opinion'', was also arrested.<ref>{{cite news |id={{ProQuest|186004495}} |title=Gunmen kidnap two editors |work=The Guardian |date=16 April 1977 |page=5 }}</ref> The Army announced that Timerman and Jara were being held, with 13 others, "in relation to the investigation of the Graiver case".<ref>{{cite news |id={{ProQuest|158281793}} |last1=Belnap |first1=David F. |title=2 Argentine Newsmen Held in Scandal |work=Los Angeles Times|date=16 April 1977 |page=A12 }}</ref> The same day, the US [[Federal Bureau of Investigation]] announced that it had become involved in the case, and was hunting for Graiver under suspicion that his death had been faked.<ref>{{cite news |id={{ProQuest|544949716}} |title=FBI, Interpol Hunt Kingpin In $50-Million Bank Caper |work=Hartford Courant |agency=United Press International |date=17 April 1977 |page=19 }}</ref> The military promoted the story of a Graiver conspiracy in the national and international press. For instance, a 17 April column in ''[[La Nación]]'' promised sweeping prosecution and punishment for all those involved.<ref>Schoijet, ''The Timerman Affair'' (1983), p. 28. Quote: "It was indeed the blueprint for a [[pogrom]]: it linked the campaign against tax evasion to [[Gelbard]], Graiver, and the guerrillas; it stated that the top brass in the military would 'reach the final consequences, no matter who might fall'; it even named the general who would preside over the court-martial [...]"</ref> On 25 May 1977, the government appointed General José Teófilo Goyret as the ''interventor'' (military supervisor) of ''La Opinión''.<ref>Rein & Davidi, "Exile of the World" (2010), pp. 1–2.</ref> Goyret later allowed the paper, worth $5,000,000, to quietly fold.<ref name=Williams />
