Heckscher State Park and Bayard Cutting Arboretum are serviced within Great River Fire Department district. Great River Fire Department competes as "Team River Rat." The area lies within the [[Suffolk County Police Department]] 3rd precinct. Exchange Ambulance of the Islips (established 1951) provides 24/7 [[Emergency Medical Service]] (EMS) coverage for Great River.
