In 2009, Thailand and Peru signed a free trade agreement calling for elimination of tariffs on 70% of 5,000 items listed in the agreement.  Thailand imports tin and fish from Peru. Thailand has had relations with the United States since 1833. In 2003, the United States designated Thailand as a [[major non-NATO ally]], which grants Thailand many financial and military benefits derived from the United States.
