Ecbatana remained loyal to the Parthians until AD 226, when [[Ardashir I]] defeated [[Artabanus IV of Parthia|Artabanus IV]] and conquered Ecbatana from the north, alongside [[Atropatene]].{{Citation needed|date=February 2024}} There is conflicting evidence as to whether Ecbatana was used as the summer capital for Sasanians or not.
