On July 27, 2012, CNN president [[Jim Walton (journalist)|Jim Walton]] announced he was resigning after 30 years at the network. Moseley became the network's first executive editor and would have both national and international news. Adding their ranks, Thompson made Alex MacCallum, who worked with Thompson at The New York Times, executive vice president of digital products. In July 2024, CNN announced that it was cutting one hundred jobs, or about 3% of its total workforce.
