* [[George Abbot (bishop)|George Abbot]] (1562{{endash}}1633) [[Archbishop of Canterbury]] {{endash}} was born in Guildford and lived in the town until 1580, when he became a student at [[Balliol College, Oxford|Balliol College]], [[Oxford University]].
