Health care and emergency medical service in the City of Paris and its suburbs are provided by the [[Assistance publique – Hôpitaux de Paris]] (AP-HP), a public hospital system that employs more than 90,000 people, including practitioners, support personnel, and administrators, in 44 hospitals.<ref name="hospital"/> It is the largest hospital system in Europe. Other hospitals include [[Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital]], one of the largest in Europe, [[Hôpital Cochin]], [[Bichat–Claude Bernard Hospital]], [[Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou]], [[Bicêtre Hospital]], [[Beaujon Hospital]], the [[Curie Institute (Paris)|Curie Institute]], [[Lariboisière Hospital]], [[Necker–Enfants Malades Hospital]], [[Hôpital Saint-Louis]], [[Hôpital de la Charité]] and the [[American Hospital of Paris]].
