==Government== Smithton has a small local government that consists of seven (currently six active) council members and a mayor. Borough meetings are held on the second Monday of each month. The Smithton Borough Police Department has eight sworn police officers, one full-time officer and seven part-time officers, which patrol the town less than 40 hours per month in total.
