The racial makeup of the city was 76.3% [[White]], 4.8% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 2.2% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.9% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.6% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], and 10.1% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]] or from two or more races. The city has significant minority populations of West Africans, Somalis, Ethiopians, Vietnamese, Mexicans, and Guatemalans. This has been attributed to the many meat factories and manufacturing jobs in the area.

The population density was {{cvt|1441.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|1}}. There were 33,425 housing units at an average density of {{cvt|582.8|/sqmi|/km2|1}}. The racial makeup of the city was 80.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.9% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 2.6% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.7% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.1% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 7.4% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 3.7% from two or more races. There were 31,571 households, of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 13.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.2% were non-families. 29.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.14.

The racial makeup of the city was 85.23% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2.41% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1.95% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.82% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.04% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 5.27% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2.28% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 10.89% of the population.
