==Geography== Riddle is about 25 mi south of Roseburg and 220 mi south of Portland. It lies about 4 mi west of Oregon Route 99 (Interstate 5) at an elevation of about 700 ft above sea level. Cow Creek flows by Riddle before entering the nearby South Umpqua River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.63 sqmi, all of it land. ===Climate=== Riddle has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate (Csb) according to the Köppen climate classification system. Summers are cool during the mornings but become hot by afternoon, whilst winters are chilly, if not severe, and rainy. During hot spells in the summer, there are 28 afternoons reaching over 90 F and three afternoons over 100 F, although only five mornings have ever stayed at or above 68 F. The hottest afternoon has been 111 F on June 27, 2021, and the hottest morning 72 F on June 28, 2015. The hottest month on record has been July 2015 with a mean of 75.1 F, although the hottest mean maximum is 93.6 F in July 1938 and August 1939. During winter, most days feature westerly surface and aloft winds, although rainfall is restricted by the coastal mountains. On rare occasions, a block in the Gulf of Alaska will drive cold air from the continent west of the Sierra/Cascade crest, producing much colder than normal weather with either snow or clear skies. The coldest month on record has been January 1937 with a mean of 32.7 F and a maximum of 40.0 F. The coldest temperature on record has been on January 22, 1962, while the coldest maximum temperature was 20 F on December 21, 1990. The wettest year was from July 1973 to June 1974 with 50.01 in and the driest from July 1976 to June 1977 with 16.20 in. The wettest day on record has been November 20, 2012 when 4.43 in fell, and the wettest month December 1996 with 16.72 in. Snowfall is rare: the mean is 5.2 in; although the most in one month was 42.9 in in January 1950 and the most on the ground was 13 in on January 13, 1930, eighteen seasons have had zero snowfall and four more only a trace. {{Weather box |location = Riddle, Oregon, 1991–2020 normals, extremes 1899–present |single line = Yes |collapsed = Y |Jan record high F = 73 |Feb record high F = 80 |Mar record high F = 86 |Apr record high F = 95 |May record high F = 106 |Jun record high F = 111 |Jul record high F = 108 |Aug record high F = 110 |Sep record high F = 108 |Oct record high F = 102 |Nov record high F = 81 |Dec record high F = 74 |Jan avg record high F = 63.8 |Feb avg record high F = 68.8 |Mar avg record high F = 75.4 |Apr avg record high F = 82.9 |May avg record high F = 90.0 |Jun avg record high F = 93.6 |Jul avg record high F = 98.8 |Aug avg record high F = 100.4 |Sep avg record high F = 97.5 |Oct avg record high F = 86.3 |Nov avg record high F = 71.6 |Dec avg record high F = 62.7 |year avg record high F = 103.0 |Jan high F = 52.7 |Feb high F = 57.1 |Mar high F = 61.5 |Apr high F = 66.2 |May high F = 73.6 |Jun high F = 79.5 |Jul high F = 88.2 |Aug high F = 88.8 |Sep high F = 83.6 |Oct high F = 71.0 |Nov high F = 57.9 |Dec high F = 50.6 |year high F = |Jan mean F = 44.8 |Feb mean F = 47.2 |Mar mean F = 50.2 |Apr mean F = 53.8 |May mean F = 60.1 |Jun mean F = 65.3 |Jul mean F = 71.7 |Aug mean F = 71.4 |Sep mean F = 66.0 |Oct mean F = 57.1 |Nov mean F = 49.3 |Dec mean F = 43.7 |year mean F = |Jan low F = 36.9 |Feb low F = 37.2 |Mar low F = 38.8 |Apr low F = 41.4 |May low F = 46.6 |Jun low F = 51.1 |Jul low F = 55.3 |Aug low F = 54.0 |Sep low F = 48.5 |Oct low F = 43.3 |Nov low F = 40.7 |Dec low F = 36.7 |year low F = |Jan avg record low F = 27.2 |Feb avg record low F = 27.7 |Mar avg record low F = 29.7 |Apr avg record low F = 31.8 |May avg record low F = 36.1 |Jun avg record low F = 41.6 |Jul avg record low F = 46.7 |Aug avg record low F = 45.9 |Sep avg record low F = 39.0 |Oct avg record low F = 31.7 |Nov avg record low F = 29.5 |Dec avg record low F = 26.8 |year avg record low F = 22.2 |Jan record low F = 2 |Feb record low F = 8 |Mar record low F = 20 |Apr record low F = 23 |May record low F = 26 |Jun record low F = 34 |Jul record low F = 35 |Aug record low F = 36 |Sep record low F = 24 |Oct record low F = 17 |Nov record low F = 13 |Dec record low F = 3 |precipitation colour = green |Jan precipitation inch = 4.72 |Feb precipitation inch = 3.35 |Mar precipitation inch = 3.39 |Apr precipitation inch = 2.53 |May precipitation inch = 1.86 |Jun precipitation inch = 0.98 |Jul precipitation inch = 0.27 |Aug precipitation inch = 0.28 |Sep precipitation inch = 0.71 |Oct precipitation inch = 2.25 |Nov precipitation inch = 4.57 |Dec precipitation inch = 6.17 |year precipitation inch = |unit precipitation days = 0.01 in |Jan precipitation days = 19.4 |Feb precipitation days = 16.6 |Mar precipitation days = 17.9 |Apr precipitation days = 15.8 |May precipitation days = 11.5 |Jun precipitation days = 6.4 |Jul precipitation days = 1.9 |Aug precipitation days = 1.8 |Sep precipitation days = 4.9 |Oct precipitation days = 11.8 |Nov precipitation days = 18.9 |Dec precipitation days = 20.4 |Jan snow inch = 0.5 |Feb snow inch = 0.7 |Mar snow inch = 0.1 |Apr snow inch = 0.0 |May snow inch = 0.0 |Jun snow inch = 0.0 |Jul snow inch = 0.0 |Aug snow inch = 0.0 |Sep snow inch = 0.0 |Oct snow inch = 0.0 |Nov snow inch = 0.0 |Dec snow inch = 0.6 |year snow inch = |unit snow days = 0.1 in |Jan snow days = 0.3 |Feb snow days = 0.4 |Mar snow days = 0.1 |Apr snow days = 0.0 |May snow days = 0.0 |Jun snow days = 0.0 |Jul snow days = 0.0 |Aug snow days = 0.0 |Sep snow days = 0.0 |Oct snow days = 0.0 |Nov snow days = 0.0 |Dec snow days = 0.4 |source 1 = NOAA |source 2 = National Weather Service }}
