==Geography== Palestine is located near the center of Anderson County. Several numbered highways converge on the city, including U.S. Highways [[U.S. Route 79 in Texas|79]], [[U.S. Route 84 in Texas|84]], and [[U.S. Route 287 in Texas|287]], plus Texas State highways [[Texas State Highway 19|19]] and [[Texas State Highway 155|155]]. Dallas is {{convert|110|mi}} to the northwest, and Houston is {{convert|150|mi}} to the south. [[Tyler, Texas|Tyler]] is {{convert|47|mi}} to the northeast. A 25,600-acre lake with a total length of 18 miles, 135 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 16.25 ft, it offers an array of freshwater fish species including [[bass (fish)|bass]], [[crappie]], and [[catfish]]. The Upper Neches River Municipal Water Authority owns and operates Lake Palestine. The city of Palestine has a water contract for 25 million gallons of water per day.
