==Future and possibility of expansion== The possibility of reopening the missing {{convert|8|mile|km|adj=on}} section between Malton via [[Rillington railway station|Rillington Junction]] (on the York β Malton β Scarborough Line) and Pickering has often been discussed. It is included in a list of rail lines, where campaigns exist for reopening, issued by the [[Campaign for Better Transport (United Kingdom)|Campaign for Better Transport]].<ref>{{cite web| url=http://www.bettertransport.org.uk/re-opening-rail-lines |title=Re-opening rail lines |website=Campaign For Better Transport |access-date=28 November 2016}}</ref><ref>{{cite news| first=Rhys| last=Howell |date=12 September 2014| url=http://www.whitbygazette.co.uk/news/local/campaign-aims-to-restore-rail-link-1-6838481 |url-status=dead| archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141210111056/http://www.whitbygazette.co.uk/news/local/campaign-aims-to-restore-rail-link-1-6838481| archive-date=10 December 2014| title=Campaign aims to restore rail link| newspaper=Whitby Gazette| access-date=7 December 2014}}</ref> This might allow the running of steam services from York to Whitby again.
