In 2000 this increased to 7,882 Asians, or 14.5% of the city's population, making it one of ten Massachusetts cities with the largest Asian populations in the state. There were 4,504 [[Chinese American|ethnic Chinese people]] (57% of Malden's Asians), 876 [[Vietnamese American|ethnic Vietnamese]], and 696 [[Indian American|ethnic Indians]].
