The [[Hastings High School (Florida)|Hastings High School]] was built in 1924 to provide education for the children of the farmers in the southwest corner of the county.<ref name="Hastingsbranch">[http://www.sjcpls.org/content/hastings-branch] St. Johns County Public Library, Hastings Branch</ref> In 1985 it closed,<ref name=Hastingsschhist>{{cite web |url=http://www-hes.stjohns.k12.fl.us/hesbckgrnd.html |title=Background Information of Wildcat Country |publisher=Hastings Elementary School |date=February 2, 1999 |accessdate=December 4, 2021 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/19990202111142/http://www-hes.stjohns.k12.fl.us/hesbckgrnd.html |archive-date=February 2, 1999 |url-status=dead}}</ref> and the ''Hastings Branch'' of the St. Johns County Public Library is located in this building.<ref name=Hastingsbranch/> Hastings Elementary School was replaced by Hastings Elementary-Junior High School, which occupied the former high school facility, in 1985. In 1992 it dropped its junior high school program. The school, now Hastings Elementary School,<ref name=Hastingsschhist/> was in operation until its 2005 closure.
