}}</ref> in the North Atlantic north of the [[Azores]], when they were attacked by American [[Grumman TBF Avenger|Avenger]] and [[Grumman F4F Wildcat|Wildcat]] aircraft of US Navy squadron [[VC-9]] flying from the [[escort carrier]] {{USS|Card||2}}. While the other U-boats submerged and escaped, ''U-460'' was sunk by depth charges in position {{coord|43|18|N|28|58|W|display=inline,title}}. 62 were killed; two crewmen survived.<ref name="Uboatnet"/>
