== Geography == [[File:Amicalola Falls 02.jpg|thumb|right|200px|[[Amicalola Falls]]]] According to the [[U.S. Census Bureau]], the county has a total area of {{convert|214|sqmi}}, of which {{convert|211|sqmi}} are land and {{convert|3.6|sqmi}} (1.7%) are covered by water.<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=April 23, 2011|date=February 12, 2011|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> The county is located in the [[foothills]] of the [[Blue Ridge Mountains]]. Portions of the mountain chain extend into the far northern and western portions of the county, with elevations around 3,500 ft. in this area. Part of [[Lake Lanier]] is in the southeastern part of the county and the boundary lines with neighboring counties pass through the lake. The {{convert|729|ft|m|adj=on}} [[Amicalola Falls]], are located in the county. The Amicalola Falls are the highest in Georgia, the tallest cascading waterfall east of the [[Mississippi River]], and one of the [[List of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia (U.S. state)|Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia]]. The highest point in the county is [[Black Mountain (Georgia)|Black Mountain]], with an elevation of {{convert|3600|ft|m}}. <!--what? {{convert|6760|acre|km2}}, which is located in the [[Chattahoochee National Forest]]. --> The [[Chestatee River|Chestatee]] and [[Etowah River|Etowah]] Rivers flow through Dawson County.
