Accidents are rare during the construction of a castell; however, as in every other crowded cultural event, ambulances are stationed nearby in case a person needs immediate attention.<ref>Els Castells - The human torres [https://visitcatalonia.net/els-castells-the-human-towers/ The human towers]</ref> Fatal accidents do occur; the most recent was on 15 September 2011 when a man broke his second cervical vertebrae after falling from a ''castell''.
