The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States census|racial makeup]] of the city was 54.33% White, 25.74% African American, 0.53% Native American, 7.86% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 3.88% from other races, and 7.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.48% of the population. There were 11,103 households, out of which 15.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 18.83% were married couples living together, 12.57% had a female householder with no husband present, and 66.16% were non-families. 49.42% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.92 and the average family size was 1.96. The city's age distribution consisted of 11.9% under the age of 18, 38.3% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 25.0 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males. The median income for a household in the city was $24,093, and the median income for a family was $53,590. Males had a median income of $18,141 versus $20,475 for females.
