The population density was 1,241.0 per square mile (479.1/km{{sup|2}}). There were 2,812 housing units at an average density of 409.9 per square mile (158.2/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup was 84.98% (7,234) [[White (U.S. Census)|white]], 8.08% (688) [[African American (U.S. Census)|black or African-American]], 0.41% (35) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.87% (74) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.0% (0) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.67% (57) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 4.99% (425) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race was 3.6% (319) of the population.

The racial makeup of the city was 84.90% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 12.64% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.60% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.30% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.25% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.30% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.37% of the population.
