The racial makeup of the county was 70.13% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 8.50% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.61% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.34% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.03% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 17.66% from some other races and 2.74% from two or more races. [[Hispanic and Latino Americans|Hispanic or Latino]] people of any race were 40.44% of the population.

Of the 10,816 households, 37.0% had children under 18 living with them, 56.0% were married couples living together, 13.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.3% were not families.
