The [[2020 United States census]]<ref>{{Cite web |title=Explore Census Data |url=https://data.census.gov| access-date=2023-12-17 |website=data.census.gov}}</ref> counted 11,445 people, 4,379 households, and 3,024 families in Bridgeton. The population density was 786.6 per square mile (303.7/km{{sup|2}}). There were 4,812 housing units at an average density of 330.7 per square mile (127.7/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup was 59.94% (6,860) [[White (U.S. Census)|white]], 24.62% (2,818) [[African American (U.S. Census)|black or African-American]], 0.46% (53) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 3.22% (369) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.03% (3) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 4.29% (491) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 7.44% (851) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race was 12.0% (1,390) of the population.

Of the 4,379 households, 26.6% had children under the age of 18; 45.8% were married couples living together; 30.7% had a female householder with no husband present. Of all households, 26.2% consisted of individuals and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.0.

22.2% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40.5 years. For every 100 females, the population had 85.1 males. For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 84.2 males.

The racial makeup of the city was 72.4% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 18.7% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.2% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.5% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 4.1% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 2.1% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 6.4% of the population.

The racial makeup of the city was 86.47% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 9.05% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 2.27% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.01% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]],  0.21% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.69% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.30% from two or more races. 2.22% of the population were [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race.

The ''per-capita'' income for the city was $23,955. 4.9% of the population and 3.2% of families lived below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.7% were under 18 and 6.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
