=== The Balmville Tree ===
The [[Balmville Tree]] was located behind the current Balmville Elementary School, where Balmville Road, River Road, and Commonwealth Avenue intersect.  It was the smallest state forest in New York, and was one of only three trees protected by the federal government.  It had been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2000.
