In recent years, average temperatures in the county seat of Mays Landing have ranged from a low of {{convert|24|°F}} in January to a high of {{convert|86|°F}} in July, although a record low of {{convert|-11|°F}} was recorded in February 1979 and a record high of {{convert|106|°F}} was recorded in June 1969. The county has a [[humid subtropical climate]] (''Cfa''). In December 1992, a [[December 1992 nor'easter|nor'easter]] produced the highest tide on record in Atlantic City, {{convert|9.0|ft|m|abbr=on}} above [[Chart datum#Mean lower low water|mean lower low water]].<ref name="ncdc"/> Former [[Hurricane Sandy]] struck near Brigantine as an [[extratropical cyclone]], which produced an all-time minimum [[atmospheric pressure|barometric pressure]] of {{convert|948.5|mbar|inHg|abbr=on}} and wind gusts to {{convert|91|mph|km/h|abbr=on}} in Atlantic City, as well as a [[storm surge]] that inundated low-lying areas.
