Pelosi stands in favor of increased background checks for potential gun owners, as well as the [[Assault weapons legislation in the United States|banning]] of [[assault weapon]]s. Pelosi also advocated for the creation of a special committee on gun violence and said Republicans had previously created committees to investigate [[Planned Parenthood]] and the [[2012 Benghazi attack]].<ref name="thehill" />
