Stained glass has often been used as a decorative element in public buildings, initially in places of learning, government or justice but increasingly in other public and commercial places such as banks, retailers and railway stations. [[Public house]]s in some countries make extensive use of stained glass and leaded lights to create a comfortable atmosphere and retain privacy.
