Many styles of graffiti are seen in Tehran. However, unsanctioned street art is forbidden in Iran,<ref name="graff"/> and such works are usually short-lived.

During the [[2009 Iranian presidential election protests]], many graffiti works were created by people supporting the [[Iranian Green Movement|Green Movement]]. In recent years, Tehran Municipality has been using graffiti in order to beautify the city.
