The Dallas area has a high number of colleges and universities. In addition to those in the city, the surrounding cities also have a number of universities, colleges, trade schools, and other educational institutions. The following describes the universities and their proximity to the city:

The [[Texas Legislature]] defines all areas in Dallas County and in the [[Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District]] as being in the service area of [[Dallas College]] (formerly Dallas County Community College District or DCCCD). *[[UT Southwestern Medical Center]] ("UTSW") is a prominent academic medical center north of downtown Dallas in the [[Southwestern Medical District]].
