The city has {{cvt|160|km|mi}} of cycle paths that, wherever they exist, are very much preferable to riding in the city's traffic. The [[Bike Rio]] began operations in October 2011. This [[bicycle sharing system]] is sponsored by the municipal government of Rio de Janeiro in partnership with [[Itaú Unibanco|Banco Itaú]].
