The city hosted the 23rd and 31st [[European Juggling Convention]]s (EJC) in 2000 and 2008. In July the [[African Summer Festival]] is held in the city's Nordstadt. The city was not only located within the eclipse path but was one of the few within Germany not plagued by bad weather.
