==Personal life== Chávez married twice. He first wed Nancy Coromoto Colmenares ({{died-in|2022}}), a woman from a poor family in Chávez's hometown of Sabaneta. Chávez and Colmenares remained married for 18 years, during which time they had three children: Rosa Virginia, born on September 6, 1978, [[María Gabriela Chávez|María Gabriela]], born on March 12, 1980, and Hugo Rafael, born on October 14, 1982; the last of whom suffers from behavioural problems.<ref name="MarcanoTyszka 254-255">[[#Mar07|Marcano and Tyszka 2007]]. pp. 254–255.</ref> The couple separated soon after Chávez's 1992 coup attempt. He intended at one time to become a priest.
