====National Historic Landmark====
Near the start of the renovations, the Ricketts applied for [[National Historic Landmark]] status for Wrigley Field in 2013. A similar plan had been successfully pursued by the owners of [[Fenway Park]] in Boston. To achieve landmark status, the renovations had to respect and reflect the historic character of the stadium. The benefit to the owners is that landmark status allows them to claim tax credits for the renovation.
