The racial makeup of Turlock was 47,864 (69.8%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1,160 (1.7%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 601 (0.9%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 3,865 (5.6%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 313 (0.5%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 11,328 (16.5%) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 3,418 (5.0%) from two or more races. Continued immigration from the [[Azores]] Islands ([[Portugal]]) in recent decades has established a large [[Portuguese language|Portuguese]]-speaking community within the city.
