At the [[2000 United States Census|2000 census]] there were 7,450 people in 4,128 households, including 2,059 families, in the city. The population density was {{convert|4,679.0|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 5,694 housing units at an average density of {{convert|3,576.2|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The [[Race and ethnicity in the United States Census#2000 census|racial makeup]] of the city of the city was 97.69% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.28% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.28% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.59% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.03% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.43% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 0.70% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.23% of the population.

In 2000, the median household income was $42,150 and the median family income  was $64,158. Males had a median income of $38,903 versus $32,586 for females.
