West played the lower-middle-class clerk Leonard Bast in the [[Merchant Ivory]] [[Howards End (film)|film adaptation]] of [[E. M. Forster]]'s novel ''[[Howards End]]'' (1992), featuring [[Emma Thompson]], [[Helena Bonham Carter]], and [[Anthony Hopkins]].
