Through his father Lansing was descended from [[Thomas Dudley]], [[John Allin (Puritan minister)|John Allin]], [[Samuel Appleton (born 1625)|Samuel Appleton]] and [[Thomas Mayhew]]. Through his mother he was descended from [[Miles Morgan]], [[John Mason (c. 1600–1672)|John Mason]], [[Roger Williams]], [[Anne Hutchinson]] and [[John Cutt]].<ref>Daughters of the American Revolution Magazine</ref> In 1890, Lansing married Eleanor Foster, the daughter of Secretary of State [[John Watson Foster|John W.
