===2000 census===
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,014 people, 381 households, and 265 families residing in the city. The population density was {{convert|1,519.6|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 406 housing units at an average density of {{convert|608.5|/sqmi|/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of the city was 94.48% White, 2.27% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 2.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.97% of the population.<ref name ="wwwcensusgov"/>

There were 381 households, out of which 36.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% were married couples living together, 13.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. Individuals made up 24.4% of all households, and 10% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 people and the average family size was 3.15.<ref name="wwwcensusgov" />

In the city, the population was spread out, with 31.2% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median income for a household in the city was $28,750, and the median income for a family was $37,159. Males had a median income of $31,438 versus $27,232 for females.
