The [[2020 United States census]] reported that Orinda had a population of 19,514. The population density was {{convert|1,518.4|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of Orinda was 68.8% [[White Americans|White]], 1.0% [[African Americans|African American]], 0.2% [[Native Americans in the United States|Native American]], 17.4% [[Asian Americans|Asian]], 0.1% [[Pacific Islander Americans|Pacific Islander]], 1.4% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 11.1% from two or more races. The census reported that 99.8% of the population lived in households, 0.0% lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0.2% were institutionalized.<ref name=DP1/>

There were 6,957 households, out of which 38.2% included children under the age of 18, 72.6% were married-couple households, 2.8% were [[cohabitation|cohabiting]] couple households, 16.0% had a female householder with no partner present, and 8.6% had a male householder with no partner present. 16.0% of households were one person, and 11.9% were one person aged 65 or older. The age distribution was 24.9% under the age of 18, 5.8% aged 18 to 24, 16.9% aged 25 to 44, 29.1% aged 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65{{nbsp}}years of age or older. The median age was 46.6{{nbsp}}years. For every 100 females, there were 96.6 males.<ref name=DP1/>

In 2023, the US Census Bureau estimated that 19.9% of the population were foreign-born. Of all people aged 5 or older, 80.5% spoke only English at home, 3.1% spoke [[Spanish language|Spanish]], 6.7% spoke other [[Indo-European languages]], 9.2% spoke Asian or Pacific Islander languages, and 0.5% spoke other languages.
