The top five reported ancestries (people were allowed to report up to two ancestries, thus the figures will generally add to more than 100%) were English (89.5), Spanish (2.7%), Other Indo-European (1.6%), Asian and Pacific Islander (2.2%), and Other (3.9%).

The racial makeup was 89.94% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 4.03% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.34% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.78% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.04% [[Race (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.81% from some other races and 2.07% from two or more races. [[Hispanic and Latino Americans|Hispanic or Latino]] people of any race were 2.93% of the population.

The racial makeup was 92.55% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1.90% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.34% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 2.81% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.10% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.94% from some other races, and 1.36% from two or more races. [[Hispanic and Latino Americans|Hispanic or Latino]] people of any race were 2.22% of the population.

There were 12,367 households, of which 23.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.7% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 51.0% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.90.

The median age was 25 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,956, and the median income for a family was $47,297. Males had a median income of $30,889 versus $22,081 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,652.
