The population density was {{convert|3,889.7|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of Madera was 30,640 (49.9%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 2,069 (3.4%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 1,933 (3.1%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1,369 (2.2%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 72 (0.1%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 22,603 (36.8%) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 2,730 (4.4%) from two or more races. The population was spread out, with 21,338 people (34.7%) under the age of 18, 7,732 people (12.6%) aged 18 to 24, 17,287 people (28.1%) aged 25 to 44, 10,407 people (16.9%) aged 45 to 64, and 4,652 people (7.6%) who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 26.6 years. For every 100 females, there were 104.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.3 males.
