A small outfit, Ray Kirkwood Productions, gave him a lead, ''[[The Shadow of Silk Lennox]]'' (1935). At [[Republic Pictures|Republic]], he featured alongside [[Gene Autry]] in ''[[The Singing Cowboy (1936 film)|The Singing Cowboy]]'' (1936) and ''[[The Old Corral]]'' (1937).
