==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]<ref name="GR2" /> of 2000, there were 1,367 people, 564 households, and 395 families residing in the town. The [[population density]] was 13.2 people per square mile (5.1/km<sup>2</sup>). There were 850 housing units at an average density of 8.2 per square mile (3.2/km<sup>2</sup>). The racial makeup of the town was 95.90% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.44% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 2.41% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.07% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.07% from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 1.10% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.37% of the population.

There were 564 households, out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 26.1% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $31,852, and the median income for a family was $41,042. Males had a median income of $29,674 versus $21,154 for females.
