Indian River County experienced devastating effects from the [[2004 Atlantic hurricane season|2004 Atlantic Hurricane Season]].  

On September 5, 2004, the county was affected by the category 2 landfall of [[Hurricane Frances]]. [https://www.weather.gov/media/mlb/surveys/frances.pdf] There was wide spread power outages, flooding, and high winds. 

Only 21 days later, on September 26, 2004, [[Hurricane Jeanne]] made landfall near Indian River County as a category 3 hurricane with 120 mph winds. A special Tornado Warning was issued (precursor to the [[Extreme wind warning|Extreme Wind Warning]]) for Indian River County due to the right eye wall of the storm striking hitting the county. One fatality was caused when an elderly woman was attempting to evacuate her home in [[Indian River Shores, Florida|Indian River Shores.]] An F1 tornado touched down in [[West Vero Corridor, Florida|West Vero Corridor]] causing $34,000 (2025 USD) in damage.
