====2000s====
* 2002: MotoGP replaces the 500cc class; four-strokes are re-introduced and receive a displacement increase to 990cc. Two-strokes of 500cc capacity remain compliable for independent teams for the transitional period. Meanwhile [[Bridgestone]] made its' MotoGP début and [[Dunlop Tyres|Dunlop]] returned to top class after four years absence.
* 2003: [[Ducati Corse|Ducati]] makes its Grand Prix debut in the new four-stroke MotoGP class.
* 2003: [[Daijiro Kato]] is killed during his home [[2003 Japanese motorcycle Grand Prix|Japanese Grand Prix]] in the MotoGP class on the [[Suzuka Circuit]] when he hits the barrier at 130R just before the final chicane.
