==Geography==
According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the town of German Flatts has a total area of {{convert|88.6|km2|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|87.3|km2|order=flip}} are land and {{convert|1.3|km2|order=flip}}, or 1.46%, are water.<ref name="Census 2010"/>

The northern town line is marked by the [[Mohawk River]] and the [[Erie Canal]]. The village of [[Ilion, New York|Ilion]] is in the northwestern corner of the town, and the village of [[Mohawk, Herkimer County, New York|Mohawk]] is farther east, along the northern town line.

The [[New York State Thruway]] ([[Interstate 90 in New York|Interstate 90]]) crosses the northeast part of the town. [[New York State Route 5S]] passes through the northern part of German Flatts and intersects [[New York State Route 28]] in Mohawk village. [[New York State Route 168]] runs southeasterly through the town from Mohawk village.
