===Peninsula campaign=== {{Main|Peninsula campaign}} In March 1862, the Army of the Potomac was reorganized into four corps,{{sfn|Cleaves|1960|p=61}} Meade served as part of the [[I Corps (Union Army)|I Corps]] under Maj. Gen [[Irvin McDowell]].{{sfn|Warner|1964|p=316}} The I Corps was stationed in the Rappahannock area, but in June, the Pennsylvania Reserves were detached and sent to the Peninsula to reinforce the main army.{{sfn|Cleaves|1960|pp=62-63}} With the onset of the [[Seven Days Battles]] on June 25, the Reserves were directly involved in the fighting. At [[Battle of Mechanicsville|Mechanicsville]] and [[Gaines Mill]], Meade's brigade was mostly held in reserve,{{sfn|Pennypacker|1901|pp=32-33}} but at [[Battle of Glendale|Glendale]] on June 30, the brigade was in the middle of a fierce battle. His brigade lost 1,400 men{{sfn|Pennypacker|1901|p=49}} and Meade was shot in the right arm and through the back.{{sfn|Cleaves|1960|p=68}} He was sent home to Philadelphia to recuperate.{{sfn|Cleaves|1960|p=69}} Meade resumed command of his brigade in time for the [[Second Battle of Bull Run]], then assigned to Major General [[Irvin McDowell]]'s corps of the [[Army of Virginia]]. His brigade made a heroic stand on [[Henry House Hill]] to protect the rear of the retreating Union Army.{{sfn|Brown|2021|p=7}}
