The Farmington [[Micropolitan]] Statistical Area includes St. Francois County and [[Washington County, Missouri|Washington County]] and has a population of 90,554 as of 2010. Farmington is a component of the St. Louis-St. Charles-Farmington, MO-IL [[Table of United States Combined Statistical Areas|Combined Statistical Area]], also known as [[Greater St. Louis]].

The population density was 1,919.6 per square mile (740.8/km{{sup|2}}). There were 7,493 housing units at an average density of 789.6 per square mile (304.7/km{{sup|2}}). The racial makeup was 87.02% (15,853) [[White (U.S. Census)|white]], 5.76% (1,049) [[African American (U.S. Census)|black or African-American]], 0.35% (64) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.37% (249) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.01% (1) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.59% (108) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 4.9% (893) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race was 1.8% (340) of the population.

Of the 6,586 households, 26.2% had children under the age of 18; 44.6% were married couples living together; 31.9% had a female householder with no husband present. Of all households, 32.0% consisted of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.3 and the average family size was 3.0.

20.7% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 35.0% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38.3 years. For every 100 females, the population had 119.8 males. For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 131.2 males.

The racial makeup of the city was 90.26% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 7.14% [[Black (U.S. Census)|Black]] or [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.32% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.80% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 0.04% [[Native Hawaiian]] or [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.30% from [[Race (U.S. Census)|other races]], and 1.13% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 1.16% of the population.

Approximately 51.21% of the people in Farmington identify themselves as religious or affiliated with a religion. Many of these religious residents identify as [[Christianity|Christians]]—38.08% are [[Protestantism|Protestants]], 7.65% are [[Roman Catholic Church|Roman Catholics]], 5.03% identify with another Christian faith, 0.43% are [[Church of Christ (Latter Day Saints)|Mormons]],  0.03% belong to an [[Eastern religion]], and 0.01% are [[Judaism|Jewish]].
