Merrill was married three times. In 1946, she wed [[Stanley M. In 1989, she married producer [[Ted Hartley]], and they remained married until her death.<ref name=NYTimesObit />

On May 22, 2017, Merrill died at her home in East Hampton, New York at age 93.
