Barker said in a December 2008 online interview (published in March 2009) that he had throat [[Polyp (medicine)|polyps]] which were so severe that a doctor told him he was taking in only 10% of the air he was supposed to. He has had two surgical procedures to remove them and believes his voice has improved as a result.
