===Early modern period=== During the 1500s, [[Ferdinand Magellan]] was searching for spices on behalf of Spain; in the [[Philippines]], he found {{lang|la|Cinnamomum mindanaense}}, which was closely related to ''C. zeylanicum'', the cinnamon found in Sri Lanka.
